Eligibility & Passes
01. Dutch Museum Pass (Museumkaart)
Holders of the Museumkaart enter without additional cost. However, the high volume of visitors means you must book a 'Free Time Slot' on the official portal precisely like a paying visitor.
02. I amsterdam City Card
The most popular tourist pass includes entry. Ensure you have activated your card before arrival and have your timed-entry QR code ready at the Museumplein 6 entrance.
03. Group Protocols
For groups of 10+, special rates are available but follow a separate booking path. Private guided tours must be coordinated through approved museum partners to manage floor traffic.
Professional Tip: Senior discounts (65+) are not offered at this institution. Adult rates apply to all visitors 18 and older who do not qualify for student status.
The Booking Protocol
Time-Slot Selection
Demand for the 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM windows is extreme. If your preferred date is showing red, consider 4:00 PM slots which often remain available longer and offer a quieter gallery experience.
Identity Verification
When using a student discount or a free entry pass (Museumkaart), you MUST present a physical ID or card at the checkpoint. Digital photos of your ID are rarely accepted.
Amenity Add-ons
The multimedia guide (€ 3.50) is highly recommended for first-time visitors. It covers major works like "The Potato Eaters" and provides technical insight into Van Gogh's brushwork.
Strict Arrival Windows
The museum allows a 30-minute grace period. Arriving late disrupts the capacity management algorithm and can lead to denied entry without refund eligibility.
Before You Confirm Your Ticket
It is vital to understand that the museum operates on a no-refund policy for all online ticket purchases. Once a specific date and time are locked in, they are considered final.
However, limited rescheduling may be possible if requested at least 48 hours in advance, subject to availability. If the museum is fully booked—which is common during peak Season in Amsterdam—rescheduling becomes impossible.
